Looks like we may get a little visit from "Fay" by early Wednesday morning....Right now they are projecting landfall around Ft. Meyers then across and right through Orlando....whee...It's party time!!!!
Seriously though I'm concerned about the west coast but not so much here. Our biggest problem is going to be tornadoes on the western feeder bands. That's what hurt us the most with Charley.
I'll let you know how things are progressing!!!
Don't you just miss it down here Rick? ;D

I think the worst part of the Hurricane thing was the 2 weeks when you'd have to watch the news and projected tracks wondering if you were in the path. I experienced 4 hurricanes in 3 years, but I have a friend who lived there since 1972, and who didn't go through any more hurricanes than I did. It seemed I brought them with me, and they stopped when I left.
As you'll recall, Charlie hit the day after I arrived, but I don't count that one since it didn't affect Ft Lauderdale. But, Charlie hit Port Charlotte as a Cat 4.
Fay is at most a low Cat 1, so I don't expect too much damage, and I'd expect none at all for you.

Actually, my friend Al almost got his house wiped out from Hurricane Andrew. He says he was on vacation and driving south through NC when Andrew was projected to hit right on the Broward-Palm Beach county line, which is exactly where he is. But at the last minute, Andrew took a turn to the south and clobbered Homestead, pretty much wiping everything off the map other than the Coral Castle, which could no doubt withstand a nuclear blast!

Much ado over nothing! This is one bizarre storm. Now I know why they named this one after a female.....can't make up her mind where she wants to go...I mean she spent the night with us last nite and now we don't seem to be able to get rid of her!!
LOL!

Looks like in your area you might have gotten some heavy rain, but not much damage. There have been a few spin-off tornados that have done some damage in Brevard.

Yeah, nothing here but alot of rain which is great! The lakes in the area need it. My lake is starting to look real healthy and full again. We went through a period this summer where it didn't rain for almost three weeks. The biggest problems are on the coast with beach erosion issues. They had to dump millions of dollars of sand back on the beach after 2004. Now they are losing it again which kind of sucks.

Well, don't breathe a sigh of relief just yet. You've got about 10 more weeks to sweat things out, which is one thing I don't miss about Florida!

Hey David...you said you were happy that some of those drying lakes around Orlando were being filled, but I just read that there was so much overflow that people were finding Alligators and other denizens in their yards.
You don't have any interesting new pets, do you? Please share!

LOL! No but do you remember a movie that came out back in the 70's I think? It was based on one of Ray Bradbury's books called "The Illustrated Man". Anyway the last few days have felt like the segment where the astronauts were stranded on a planet where it rained all the time and they ended up all going crazy!!!
It's mostly disrupted routines and traffic issues here. However you would be pleased to know that all the theme parks stayed open......no kidding!
Actually, now that I think of it, we do have a family of four "Sand Hill Cranes" who have taken up residence in our neighborhood. They stroll through the yard like they own the place every day. Interesting bird! I swear that when they communicate they sound like a flock of Pterodactyls!! hehe

I'm a bit of a bird-watcher, and something I always enjoyed about Florida was the variety you see there, many of which will take food from your hand. I was quite thrilled one night when I walked outside and spotted an Osprey sitting right outside my patio! I got pretty good at identifying species.
