Here's the latest tracking for Gustav. As you can see, it's on track for New Orleans. The "cone of uncertainty" shows that it could take a more northeasterly course, bringing it closer to Pensacola and probably missing the oil rigs. www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at2.shtml?5day

I just saw that Hurricane Gustav is still tracking almost directly toward New Orleans, although it may move slightly to the west now. Speculators are already bidding up the price of oil so as to profit from a possible trajedy.
It's expected to hit Monday, and this makes it dicey for the Republican Convention, which is due to start that day. Because they fell so much after botching the Katrina response, they don't want to be seen as celebrating during a catastrophe if NO suffers another hit. I'm even reading that the convention could be postponed, but I don't see how you can do that considering all the hotel and plane reservations that would have to be switched at the last moment.

This is really starting to look bad. Gustav is already a category 4 and will strike the gulf coast, very close to New Orleans early in the week. If New Orleans is destroyed again, I predict this time the city will be abandoned. The news will clearly upstage the Republican Convention, the degree depending on the exact point where it strikes.
