John McCain just announced Alaskan governor, Sarah Palin, as his running mate - that'll get him some of the disenchanted Hillary voters! - Smart move McCain!

Yeah, I was thinking it was a good play. Notice that he introduced her as "The next Vice-President." It's just an American Tradition. Hell, back in 1976 I helped a friend in Hermosa Beach, California organize a campaign for city council. He lost miserably and probably never had a chance, but at a party, even I introduced him as "Hermosa's next councilman."
Palin is young and fairly pretty. It's inevitable she'll draw some of Clinton's supporters even though she would be in lock-step with Bush & McCain and represent none of Hillary's issues. However, she's a new 2-year governor of a low-population state. Because of McCain's age, his pick is especially important. It will take the issue of Obama's perceived lack of experience off the table, since McCain has now picked a VP candidate with even less experience, who stands a strong possibility of having to take over the Presidency on short notice.

No way, only if they want to cut their noses off to spite their faces! This election is really all about crossroads for most of us and like RCS once said about this country being in a pre-fascist right wing mode. The USA is in the state it's in because of Stalinist corporatism and diabolic Christianity all using the political system and keeping the masses blind to it with deception and doublespeak, fear and mass overpopulation. Rico is right about the Republican party stealing the elections through various uses and means of fraud, the I.M.F. team isn't really employed to help the cause of freedom and justice in real life. I'm voting for Obama (even if he's murdered) because it's the only vote this "N-word metaphor" gets on the matter! ><Tomasina ChicaWolverina! Don't worry, Chica. Obama won't be murdered. Security is much better than it was back in the day JFK and RFK were killed. Sadly, candidates can't go wading out into crowds like they once did, but the Secret Service was never comfortable with that. I'm told it took all day to get the crowd into that stadium in Denver, because each of the 80,000 spectators had to be individually searched before going in.
I heard Palin is involved in a corruption investigation along with Senator Ted Stevens. I want to know more, but Stevens at age 84 is behind in his reelection bid for his Senate Seat. His opponent is Democratic Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich. That name should be familiar to everyone here, since his older brother is Nick Begich, author of "Angels Don't Play This H.A.A.R.P."
Mark and Nick's father was an Alaskan Congressman who survived a plane crash only to die of exposure and starvation when the Coast Guard failed to rescue him. To this day, no one can explain why.
If elected to the Senate, Mark Begich will be the first Democratic Senator from Alaska since Mike Gravel in the 70's. Palin may well prove to be a liability for McCain.

Commentary: Is McCain out of his mind?
By Paul Begala CNN Contributor Editor's note: Paul Begala, a Democratic strategist and CNN political contributor, was a political consultant for Bill Clinton's presidential campaign in 1992 and was counselor to Clinton in the White House. Begala is not a paid political consultant for any politicians or candidates.
Paul Begala says McCain's VP choice, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is completely unqualified to be president.
(CNN) -- John McCain needs what Kinky Friedman calls "a checkup from the neck up."
In choosing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate, he is not thinking "outside the box," as some have said. More like out of his mind.
Palin a first-term governor of a state with more reindeer than people, will have to put on a few pounds just to be a lightweight. Her personal story is impressive: former fisherman, mother of five. But that hardly qualifies her to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.
For a man who is 72 years old and has had four bouts with cancer to have chosen someone so completely unqualified to become president is shockingly irresponsible. Suddenly, McCain's age and health become central issues in the campaign, as does his judgment.
In choosing this featherweight, McCain passed over Tom Ridge, a decorated combat hero, a Cabinet secretary and the former two-term governor of the large, complex state of Pennsylvania. iReport.com: 'McCain pick might be a gimmick'
He passed over Mitt Romney, who ran a big state, Massachusetts; a big company, Bain Capital; and a big event, the Olympics.
He passed over Kay Bailey Hutchison, the Texas senator who is knowledgeable about the military, good on television and -- obviously -- a woman.
He passed over Joe Lieberman, his best friend in the Senate and fellow Iraq Kool-Aid drinker.
He passed over former congressman, trade negotiator and budget director Rob Portman.
And he also passed over Mike Huckabee, the governor of Arkansas.
For months, the McCainiacs have said they will run on his judgment and experience. In his first presidential decision, John McCain has shown that he is willing to endanger his country, potentially leaving it in the hands of someone who simply has no business being a heartbeat away from the most powerful, complicated, difficult job in human history.

Right, I am so afraid of McCain winning the presidency, cause he is so war minded. We don't need another 8 years of the same as we've had with Bush. McCain is a former POW, and is very war minded.

Well, the more I look at this woman's background, the more it's apparent that she's a lightweight. Her claim to fame is a short history as Governor, and a term as Mayor of Wasilla, which has a population of around 6000, and which she nearly bankrupted during her term. She says all the right things to ingratiate herself with the religious right, but she was clearly used as a lure for disaffected Hillary voters, even though her ideas are nothing like Hillary's. It's like trying to put Clarence Thomas on the ticket to lure black voters.

It's like trying to put Clarence Thomas on the ticket to lure black voters. You know, I'm trying my best to stay on the outskirts of this election...but when I read things like the above it cracks me up. You guys are ready to place a man in office who has never and I mean NEVER presided over any government, anywhere or anytime. He's headed up one senate committee on Europe (which he never once called a meeting into session), He's voted "Present no vote" on over 100 issues over two years and you believe this man is the Messiah or something? Do you really think he's going to be all that different? Now let's discuss VP candidates. The theme for Obama's campaign has been and is now the following: "Hope and Change, Bringing change from outside Washington" How in the world do you justify the bringing on board of a 36 year incumbent Senator? Of course, I'm sure selecting Biden wasn't a political move though, was it? Yeah, look for great change if Obama is elected. Suuuurrrrree! Now back to the outskirts to grind my teeth!
