Here's a great site for making Election Bets. I think most of you will know that you can't make Election Bets in Nevada Casinos, but there are some good offshore sites where you can. This one is based in the UK.
Obama is a 14-1 favorite right now, meaning you'd have to bet $140 just to win $10. McCain is 13-2 against, so a $20 bet will get you $130. That's down from a few days ago, when he was 13-1 against. Now, for those of you who don't understand this kind of betting, the odds aren't based on what the owners actually feel they are, but rather on how the money is going down. They operate like a Nevada Sports book, which tries to keep an even amount of money placed on both sides of a bet. They then rake in a small "vig" on the middle money. I placed $20 on McCain a few days ago at 13-1 odds. I don't mind losing $20 if Barack wins, but at least if McCain pulls out a last-minute win, I know I can console myself with an extra $260.
There are also some very interesting proposition bets, where you can try and guess what range of electoral votes a candidate will win. For example, you can get 9 to 1 if you bet Obama will score between 290 and 309 electoral votes. That may be a very good estimate, so I may hedge my bet and put some money there.
It's interesting that McCain fought very hard to ban Internet gambling, but how you can regulate overseas sites and somehow prevent Americans from betting on them is beyond my understanding. This is a very reputable site, and it comes highly recommended from some friends who play there regularly.
