I was surfing around looking at some things that washed in, finding myself reading this, thinking how I must have at some instance thought of this myself, but it's naive and funny so I had to share ja! "Question from a watch knob I read somewhere that the name “Rolex” was derived from combining the words “Timex” and “Rolls Royce.” Is this true? Is that true? No, it’s not true at all. In fact, Rolex was around for decades before the term “Timex” was even created by the Waterbury Watch Company. The person who told you that likely also believes that the Big Bang came before the Royal Oak, that Breitling is the best sport watch in the world, and that time will prove George W. Bush to have been a great president. No, the term “Rolex” is a contraction of “horlogerie exquise,” or exquisite horology. Drop that on someone soon, and tell 'em the Watch Snob told you to. Got a question for the Watch Snob? Send it to editorial@askmen.com." ><T'Chicawolverina!
